Upon receipt of a call, Campus Safety will respond to the site of the complaint. If a criminal act has been committed, the Sheriff’s Office or the State Police will be notified. These agencies will prepare and submit criminal incident reports along with the New Mexico Junior College Campus Safety Department. SEXUAL ASSAULT - Click here to report

New Mexico Junior College provides programs addressing rape, acquaintance rape, and other forcible or non-forcible sex offenses.  Specific programs can be requested through the office of the Vice President for Student Services. The meeting places and times will be posted on public bulletin boards in the student residence halls and through campus mailings.
College officials will not tolerate sexual assault activities of any type, either by staff or students, and will take any and all steps to support the criminal prosecution of persons involved in these types of activities.  However, should an incident of sexual assault occur on campus, these procedures should be followed:
  • Immediately notify Campus Safety. The Chief of Campus Safety will then notify the proper law enforcement agency. If Campus Safety cannot be reached for any reason, call 911 for immediate response by law enforcement officials. Do not disturb the scene of the crime. Evidence is very fragile and will be collected by trained evidence technicians. Do not change clothing, shower, or bathe following a sexual attack. Valuable evidence can be collected, and its integrity must be maintained. The Chief of Campus Safety will notify the appropriate members of the New Mexico Junior College administration. The administration at 火博体育官网 wants to maintain a safe campus environment and is concerned about the welfare of all members of the campus community.  火博体育官网 has an established policy concerning sexual harassment covering all employees and students. The policy can be found in both the Employee Handbook and the 火博体育官网 Student Handbook. The handbooks outline the procedures that students and employees should follow should they become the victim of a sexual assault or harassment situation.
  •  The administration of 火博体育官网 will make every reasonable effort to accommodate a change in academic or living arrangements, if requested by the victim. Both the accuser and the accused are afforded the opportunity to due process whether the incident is handled through the court system or through the campus administrative process.  Both parties are entitled to have other individuals present during a proceeding. The parties will be notified of the administration’s final determination and imposed sanctions.
  •  Should a member of the college community become a victim of a sexual assault, every resource will be utilized to insure that the victim receives immediate attention, as well as follow-up counseling and assistance.  In Hobbs, counseling can be received through the Guidance Center of Lea County, 920 West Broadway, (575) 393-3168 and through Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital, 4900 N. Lovington Highway, (575) 492-5000.
  • See our Resources and Policy Prevention here.

New Mexico Junior College has an emergency notification system. This system covers the entire campus, including parking areas. In the event of an actual emergency, a message will be given over the emergency system, which provides employees, students, and visitor’s instructions as to the actions that are recommended.  In the event of a tornado or other serious incident, on-site shelter locations have also been designated on the campus. The site maps are posted in the hallways of each building on campus.

火博体育官网 has an emergency management plan for critical incidents. This plan is intended to highlight potential areas of risk or vulnerability to campus personnel and facilities. The purpose of the plan is to enable all persons who might be present at 火博体育官网 during an emergency to remain calm and aid them in taking action based on known facts. New Mexico Junior College has made the commitment to identify potential building and equipment areas at risk, to analyze those risks, to eliminate or minimize these risks, to actively plan and prepare to respond to emergencies by training response teams, and to prepare restoration of vital services plans for an emergency.
